Stand With Us: Keep Your Name, Keep Your Voice

You signed to give Utahns a voice. Now let’s make sure they get to vote.

You signed the HB 267 referendum because you believe Utahns, not politicians, should decide the future of public worker rights. But now, opposition groups are trying to take back your signature to block the vote from happening at all.

Make the pledge:

“I signed the HB 267 referendum petition because I believe every Utahn deserves a voice. I’m not going to be misled or pressured into giving up mine. I’m keeping my name on the petition because standing firm is how we protect the right to vote.”

Don’t Get Tricked! Here’s What to Watch Out For:

The opposition doesn’t want a public vote because they know HB 267 is wildly unpopular. Instead of making their case honestly, they’re trying to kill the referendum by misleading voters into removing their signatures.

You may encounter:

At the Door, On the Phone, or By Text:

  • “Your name is on a public list.” - True, but that’s standard for any petition

  • “We’re just cleaning up invalid names.” - False, they’re trying to remove valid ones.

  • “This won’t affect the referendum.” - Not true, if enough people are misled, there will be no vote.

  • “We just want to make sure your information is up to date.” - Be careful, this may be a pretext to ask for rescission

  • “The governor rejected your signature, so you need to sign again.” - This is a lie. There is no second signature. Signing again means removing your name.

Anyone contacting you about HB 267 and asking you to sign a document is trying to silence your voice. Always read what you’re given carefully. The form they offer you will tell you the truth. It will say you are removing your signature. Don’t let a fast-talking pitch trick you into doing something you don’t support.

In Ads, Mailers, and Social Media:

  • They may not even mention the referendum

  • Instead, they’ll use wedge issues (taxes, cultural fears, etc.) to distract and divide

  • These ads won’t tell you what removing your signature does, because, if they did, you’d say no

What to Say at the Door: Respectful, Firm, Clear

If someone asks you to remove your signature, stay calm and confident. You don’t need to argue, just say:

  • “I signed to let Utahns vote. I’m not removing my name.”

  • “No thank you. I still support the referendum.”

  • “I’m standing by my signature.”

What’s At Stake

When public workers lose their ability to negotiate fair wages, safe working conditions, and benefits, it doesn’t just hurt them, it affects all of us.

Public Safety At Risk

Firefighters and police need safe staffing levels and resources to protect communities.

Weaker Public Schools

Public teachers and education staff deserve fair contracts to strengthen Utah’s classrooms.

Healthcare Workers Left Behind

Nurses and public health workers deserve fair working conditions to care for Utah families.

This referendum gives public workers their voice back.

  • Call: Reach out to signers. Check in. Keep them informed and encouraged.

  • Text: Send friendly, fact-based reminders. Clear, quick, and effective.

  • Knock Doors: Canvass in high-risk areas. Be the person who helps a neighbor protect their voice.

  • Be a Visible Defender: Put a sign in your yard or window. Show your commitment.
